Wow, check out the beautiful, skillful filming of my friend Ryan Drake! He brought a fantastic crew to my 30th birthday show, and here are a couple of the songs from that night. My favorite thing about Paste is that if you watch it all the way through, there’s actually a white horse and carriage walking past the window at the very end. Ahhhh, St. Anthony Main in Minneapolis! You can see a bit of the city skyline behind us as well. And my favorite thing about Solid Ground is, BY FAR, Rachel Price. SOOOOO SAXY!!!

So, enjoy these and watch the others if you’d like, which are on Ryan’s Youtube page (and watch everything he’s done–there are some sweet videos from our friends Deep Soul Deities and 3 lbs of Love, too!).

This show was so much fun! If you couldn’t be there, here’s a little taste of what went down. You’ll see my friends Dan Zamzow on drums, Rachel Price on saxophone, vox, and charango, and Jake Staron on bass.

Thanks so much, Ryan. You’re the best!

Wow–these last few weeks have been a whirlwind! I turned in my graduate thesis on a Monday, flew to Austin on a Wednesday for the Media Arts and Literacy Institute’s Women’s Film and Performance Arts Conference, (where I had an AMAZING weekend networking and building friendships with talented women from all over the country), came back to Spokane, defended my thesis, finished teaching English 201 for the quarter, and went ahead and graduated with a Master of Fine Arts Degree! It’s just now dawning on me that I really did it–I really completed my MFA!

What’s next for me? Well, who knows. But one thing’s for sure–music will be a part of it! I’m in the beginning stages of planning to record a second album with Dan Zamzow in Minneapolis, and I’m working on booking up gigs for the summer and fall.

Here’s what’s coming up:

June 15th: Conor Byrne Pub, Seattle. Mary Bue, Lowlands, Pretty Broken Things, and Liz Rognes.

July 7th: Spokane Songwriter’s Organization: Chairs Coffee, Spokane.

July 10th: Choochokam Arts Festival

August 15th: Birthday Show, Aster Cafe, Minneapolis! w/Thomas Kivi and Bethany DeLine!

Here are a few photos from my recent trip to Austin. I’ll leave you with some links to new bands and artists I discovered at the festival! I left the MALI Conference feeling incredibly inspired and grateful to have been a part of such a cool event. Please check these women out. From positive body awareness to improv to some serious punk to beautiful songwriting, poetry, filmmaking, and dancing, these women were absolutely astounding. I was in awe the entire weekend.

THIS YEARS THEME: SUSTAINABILITY WITHIN

Think about what it takes to fuel our lives? As female artists and citizens of the world that want social change, we desire to fuse the message of sustainability, earth consciousness, compassion and cooperation among humans through this forum. Through women’s efforts, recyclable & electronic promotions, workshops, dance, film, music and performance art, this event will portray what’s possible when we as unique individuals vibe on harmonious level and remain in tune long after an event has passed. We are the utterance of sound, the movement, the colored liquid applied to the surface. It is through our art that we transmit the message that the world – and our place in it – is sustainable and efficient. Support those who support you, sustain yourself! Register for the conference and make a difference today.
